Obsolete burst onto the music scene in April 2000. Young, carefree and seemingly touched with an effortless pop magic. Since then, they have penned 46 songs with many more in the pipeline. In fact, it's said that main songwriter, Beany, can write a song at the drop of the proverbial hat.
This solid pop trio played their first gig as Obsolete in July 2000, supporting another local act and very good friends, Mere, in the Stables of Mullingar. They've also supported Bell X1 and Wilt and have roused some interest from some indie labels.
Obsolete was born from the ashes of Sector7g, a 6 piece from Mullingar. After things went a little pear-shaped, Beany and Mixer decided it was time to form a more manageable 3 piece. To complete the trio, Molateen picked up the bass and soon the lads were producing "paddy power-pop".
The band have been raised on a healthy diet of quality music, having devoured the bitter-sweet tones of the Super Furry Animals and Pixies, chewed on the crunchy chops of Weezer and Blur, and digested the rhythmic fibre of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica. Throw all of these ingredients into a pot and you end up an Irish stew that has been described as "the missing link between Primus and the Pixies."
