Flogging Molly have just released their new single "Don't Shut ‘Em Down." The song comes from the Celtic punk band's upcoming release, out May 24th on their own imprint, Borstal Beat Records. The band spent the latter half of 2010 in Detroit, MI writing songs for the album, whose theme centers around the economic disaster in the US, and the effects it has had on the population at home and around the world. Detroit serves as a prime example of what has gone wrong. The single "Don't Shut "Em Down" revolves around this theme, as it was inspired by the words in graffiti on a wall in the once thriving Motor City.

Flogging Molly's new album is the follow up to their acclaimed 2008 release Float, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200, #1 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart and #2 on the Billboard Alternative Album Chart. The album was produced by Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Avett Brothers).

The band also recently announced dates for their 7th Annual Green 17 Tour, which crosses the U.S. from February 8th through March 19. The Green 17 Tour was born in 2004 as a countdown to St Patrick's Day with a performance celebration in each city leading to the holiday. Tickets for the Green 17 Tour are on sale now, and the tour will culminate in a performance at Coachella on April 15th.
