Last Gang RecordsWhen and why did you start your label?

Started in September 2003 at Pop Montreal to release Metric records.

What kind(s) of music does your label put out?

Alternative, electro, music to expand minds and loosen blood vessels.

What was your first release? How did you finance it?

Metric "Old World Underground, Where Are You Now". Label partner DKD and I financed it.

What is your most recent release?

Mother Mother "Touch Up"

How do you feel about sharing music on the Internet?

It's a beautiful thing. I have a lot of friends that work for Rogers and they are making millions. We need to figure out a way to compensate songwriters and artists that don't tour....but otherwise, it's a beautiful thing.

Any words of wisdom for those interested in running their own label?

Go to - running a label only is suicide.

What has been your most successful release?

Metric, "Live It Out", Death From Above 1979, "You're A Woman,..."

What's the best way and the worst way to get a label's attention?

Best: Be amazing. Worst: Suck.

Regardless of genre, what do you look for in the artists and bands you sign?

Determination. Confidence. Visions of grandeur.

There are a lot of legalities involved in running a label (signing bands, releasing records, everyday work, etc.). How does your label deal with these things?

With the best lawyers in the business - Taylor Mitsopulos Burshtein.

What upcoming releases can we expect from Last Gang Records?

Chromeo, Bang Lime....

Anything else you would like to add?

Nothing touches people like music in all its forms.
