Taken from the short film, "Benny The Bum," Luke Elliot's titular single is today's free download. With a band of proficient performers, an earnest and gravelly delivery of well-written lyrics, and a penchant for unusual time signatures, Elliot's music offers a slice of American rock that remains unique and yet feels familiar. When it comes to music, inspiration often comes from a variety of places. For Timothy Den, it is his experience as an illegal immigrant in the US that has led to his band's first LP. Ohvaur's "A Memories Chase" discusses the meaning of home, and how we are products of our cultures - however diverse they may be. The title track is available here at PlugInMusic.com as a free download and explores the differences between the memory and reality of the places we've called home, using guitar, vocal distortion and Rhodes chords to further accentuate the contrast as the lyrics repeat throughout.
Washington-based four-piece Dot Dash are keen to show off their post-punk melodics and drum-heavy sound. Taken from last year's album "Winter Garden Light," "Shouting In The Rain" is a track that keeps the vocals sparse in order to push the instruments to the forefront, belting us with a guitar-blasting rock sound that seems to harness several decades of inspiration. Manchester foursome The 1975 had a busy 2012 leading up to their recently released latest EP "Sex" - and with an album expected to drop this coming Spring there is every chance we'll be hearing their name a lot more. "You" is the EP's final track and is appropriately climactic, leading us with an echoing guitar-riff through moments of young-love. Take a listen with PlugInMusic.com's free download.

Paige McClain Wood and Steven Trezevant Dies make up The Peach Kings, a Texan duo adept at creating down tempo soul-inspired songs of bliss. Their stripped-back approach at tingling your spine can be heard on "Lonely" where Wood takes control with seductive vocals, backed up by Dies's carefully chosen picks at his guitar. Taken from their Handsome Moves EP, this track serves as a perfect introduction to their music and is available now to download here at PlugInMusic.com for free.
Taken from their forthcoming album "Prettiest Shade Of Blue," this new song from The Loomis Fargo Gang adds a little bit of country to their accomplished folk-rock sound. Described by the Virginian band themselves as "twangy," "Tootsie In The Breeze" takes us on a playful jaunt through guitar strums and picks. Take a listen with this free download at PlugInMusic.com.
Following the dissolution of his band St Helens, frontman Jarrod Quarrell has been joined by bassist Shags Chamberlain and producer John Lee for his new project: Lost Animal. Debut album "Ex Tropical" is due for release outside of his native Australia in January 2013, but until then you can preview its eccentricity with PlugInMusic.com's free download of "Say No To Thugs" - the second track from the album. Its sparse keyboard and synth may maintain the song, but it is Quarrell's stifled vocals that provide a distinctive sound of dark desperation which will stay with you long after the fade-out.
Taken from the new "Put Your Sad Down" EP, School of Seven Bells bring us the drum-loop-driven "Secret Days." Enriched with breathy Goldfrapp-esque vocals (including some wonderfully harmonic oohs and aahs) and an electro-pop synth sound that the 1980s could only have longed for, the duo are continuing to deliver on their promise to their fans. Jah Wobble and Keith Levene are collaborating again for the first time since their days together in Public Image Ltd. Three decades may have passed, but their new record successfully casts a nostalgic eye back to that early post-punk era whilst still drawing on the other musical avenues that each has explored. Title track "Yin & Yang" is as classically brutal and raw as one might hope, and also surprises by offsetting the offensive with sublime guitar and drums.
