Why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about the band?
I'm Michael and I play drums. Alli With An I formed in March of 2000 out of The Chip-Punx and Hindsight which were our high school bands from the area. We started playing shows in May 2000. Our first release is a cd called "Long Story Short" on a small local label in Raleigh called Out Of Boredom. That came out on May 4, 2001. We recently got a new bass player named Tom who moved back to NC (which is a rad thing). He used to be in Hindsight with Ry (guitar). We have been playing out more now which is nice, but hectic.

Where did the name Alli With An I come from?
It's from the movie The Karate Kid. It comes up during the soccer tryout scene. We spelled Ali with two l's b/c we didn't want people to get confused with the boxer, Muhammad Ali. It's kind of an odd name, but it stuck and it's a funny exchange in the movie.

You guys just finished your first tour in the northern part of the US. Was the vibe or reception any different from back home?
The tour was very fun. We went with our friends Years Apart from Greensboro, NC. Since it was our first tour of any kind, the crowds were small and mostly unfamiliar with us which makes it hard to get people into our stuff. It was overall a great thing. Back home it's nice b/c people can sing along and feel more comfortable moving around b/c they know us. That's an amazing thing. We thrive off of that. Greensboro is a great example of this. The scene there is really cool and it's getting better.

What have been your best and worst gigs?
This is a hard one. I'd say our best show would have to be a show we had was in July in Greensboro at The Somewhere Else Tavern b/c the energy was awesome. Our worst show would be the time we played in Ry's apartment on his birthday. It was weird.

According to your website, Alli With An I may be doing a split CD Ep. Is this still being talked about or has anything been decided? What would be the other band on the CD?
Actually, that may not happen anytime soon. We were talking to a label in London to put out a split with us and another band from England, but the guy who does the label is in some financial trouble now and can't do it. It may happen later on though. I wish it could have worked out. We are looking to record around January of next year for something. We'll see what happens.

Where do you see the band in 10 years?
Wow, 10 years is a long time. It would be could for us to be talking about putting out a 10 year video like NOFX did. I wish I could predict the future, but who knows. Time will tell.

What music are you listening to right now?
I've been listening to the last Propagandhi album, Jimmy Eat World "Clarity," Rufio, Dead Prez, Alkaline Trio, and the last Boy Sets Fire record. We all listen to a lot of different music, so there is always something playing in the house.

Favorite album(s) of all time?
My favorite album would have to be Propagandhi's "Less Talk, More Rock." It's been a major influence on me personally. Lifetime's "Hello Bastards," Alkaline Trio's "Goddamit," and Green Day's "Dookie" rank up there, too.

What bands or albums influenced you?
The bands that influence us the most would be The Get Up Kids, Lifetime, Saves The Day, Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, and a wide range of other bands. Like I said before, we all have different tastes and bands we like.

What band do you think is underrated and deserves more attention?
I think one of the most underrated bands would be...I was just thinking about this the other night...Donuts N' Glory. They put out one full length on Liberation Records years ago called "When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth." It's an amazing album, but I don't know many people who have heard it.

Anything else you'd like to add?
