Metric's first US tour in support of Fantasies was a resounding success, with sellout crowds in every city wanting the band back as soon as possible. With close to 3,000 people turning up at NY's Terminal 5, well over 2,000 coming to LA's Wiltern and scads of fans unable to get in to shows across the country, the Metric bandwagon keeps on getting bigger.
Released on April 14th via the band's own Metric Music International (aka MMI or Me Myself and I), Fantasies is the best-selling Metric album ever in the U.S. It debuted #1 on Billboard's Heatseaker Chart and skyrocketed into the Billboard's Top 100 albums chart the following week.
Buoyed by the single "Help I'm Alive," the album was propelled to #1 on the CMJ charts for several weeks (only the second self-released album in history to earn the privilege), and after debuting at # 1 on the FMQB Specialty radio chart, continues its steady climb up the Modern Rock chart where it currently sits at #26 thanks to the support of KROQ and other key tastemaker stations from coast to coast. The band, which is made up of both Americans and Canadians, presently has the #1 Rock single in Canada with "Gimme Sympathy" for the 5th week in a row despite heavy competition from Green Day and others. This marks the second consecutive #1 hit for the band on Fantasies.
The tour gathered more rave review with each stop along the way. Spin.com wrote of the first show of the tour in Seattle, "Opening night of Metric's 14-date US tour was all things sleek and sexy..." LA Weekly noted that the band "worked up the crowd into a dancing frenzy."
The band stopped in to play live sets at both KROQ and KCRW (for the show Morning Becomes Eclectic) among others and appeared on the June 18th episode of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
This week the band travels to the UK to open for The Killers during their Hard Rock Calling performance in Hyde Park on Friday, June 26th, followed by a performance at the Glastonbury Festival the next day. Metric will return to the US to make their debut on the Late Show with David Letterman on July 13.
Another tour of the US is planned for this fall.
