14th Annual North By Northeast Festival Gets Ready For Fans

The North by Northeast (NXNE) Music & Film Festival and Conference is getting ready to take over Toronto once more. Running June 12-15, 2008, NXNE invites fans to feast on some of the freshest, coolest music and film being produced today. NXNE is three events in one: a music festival, a film festival and an industry conference.

"North by Northeast is one of the best gatherings on music and music people I've ever attended." - Danny Goldberg, former manager of Nirvana, Hole, the Beastie Boys

The Music Festival: Indie isn't a style of music - it's the only way for artists and audiences to connect directly. At NXNE, more than 500 indie performers rock the fans, agents, talent buyers, label reps, promoters and press who come to hear the best of what's next. Whether your passion is rock, punk, folk, hip-hop, dance, metal, roots, electronic, R&B, alternative, or something way outside, you need to be at NXNE. Acts include Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, The Besnard Lakes, The French Kicks, These New Puritans, Carina Round, Afterhours, ok city ok and Semi Precious Weapons.

Among hundreds of amazing showcases, one of this year's key events is The MuseBox NXNE Showcase on Saturday, June 14th at The El Mocambo which will feature Paper Lions, Kakkmaddafakka, The I Spies, The Two Koreas, The High Dials, We Are Wolves and Black Diamond Bay.

"Toronto's NXNE Festival is the most teeming, throbbing and wriggling snakepit of excitement in this half of the continent, maybe even the whole landmass!" - Guy Maddin

The Film Festival: So you'd rather get your entertainment on screen than onstage? NXNE is for you, too. You'll see the best music-related movies from around the globe, from concert classics and features to rock docs-world premieres, too. Opening gala is Global Metal, Sam Dunn's look at how metal music has impacted world cultures; closing gala is Adventures of Power, directed by and starring Ari Gold along with Adrian Grenier and Michael McKeon.

"This is where you bring your entertainment vehicle if you want serious industry attention." - Rob Halford, Judas Priest

The Conference: NXNE isn't just for fans-it's for musicians, industry execs and anyone else who wants to rock the boat. The conference cuts through the b.s. with brutally honest interviews, round-table discussions, demo listening and mentoring sessions with key industry pros. Participants include Thomas Dolby, Hugh Cornwell and BBC's Bob Harris.

Catch the 14th annual North by Northeast Music & Film Festival and Conference June 12-15, 2008 at over 50 venues in downtown Toronto.
