AM has been exciting audiences with his own brand of "indie lounge future pop' opening for electro-pop kings AIR as well as French chanteuse Charlotte Gainsbourg, and will soon team up with indie songstress Diane Birch, beginning May 12, for more touring. AM and band will then hit the road with acclaimed cohort Josh Rouse in mid May and then rejoin Birch in June for a second leg. Following these US shows, AM will reunite with AIR in their home country of France, beginning June 10.
AM's new album, "Future Sons & Daughters" (Filter U.S. Recordings), produced by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs, Realism), is a collage of musical styles that recalls everything from Brazilian tropicalia, British Invasion and '60s psychedelia, and is garnering rave reviews and musical comparisons to artists such as Wilco and Beck. Just last week, the talented artist helped kick off the legendary Greek Theatre's concert season alongside his idol, Brazilian musical legend Caetano Veloso, with a memorable hometown performance.
Described by Time Out Chicago as "subtle, lush and spewing sunshine and horns," it's not hard to see why AM remains in the CMJ Top 200 and is charting in the Top 20 at Triple A radio stations, while racking up airplay from Boston to New York and L.A. where he has been championed by KCRW and performed on "Morning Becomes Eclectic" earlier this year. That session is now available as a live EP for free download.
The film and TV world continues to utilize and champion AM's repertoire with shows such as E! Entertainment's "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and MTV's "The Real World" featuring tracks from the latest record. Most recently "What You Hide," will be included on the NBC's Friday Night Lights Vol 2 Original Television Soundtrack due for digital release on May 4 and in stores on May 18. The soulful and psychedelic song, which will be featured in the second episode of the new season on May 14, joins the likes of indie and mainstream favorites such as Sufjan Stevens, White Rabbits, Band of Skulls, Jakob Dylan and others. "I think fans of the show will agree that this is not only a great collection of songs from some of the most exciting artists out there, but it is also a true representation of the musical voice of NBC's "Friday Night Lights,"" said Jason Katims, executive producer of both the series and soundtrack.
