This past spring, two American rock bands embarked on a ten date tour of Western Europe. Celebrated, Los Angeles groups Ancestors and Night Horse traveled to Germany, Belgium, Italy, Austria and the UK as part of a run of live shows bookended around the 2010 Roadburn Festival, an event billed as "Europe's leading underground festival for psychedelic, avant-garde, doom or any other variation of leftfield sonic pleasures," where each performed to rousing response. Both bands captured the journey digitally and part one of the resulting short film - the Converse-presented "Go on Tour" -- is available for viewing now at Converse.com.
Produced and directed by Night Horse lead singer Sam James Velde, "Go on Tour" is soundtracked by songs from the band's critically lauded new album Perdition Hymns. Nicknamed 'The Mother f---ing Razorbacks' by Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister, Night Horse has been said to sound as "If Sonic Youth had been immersed in an ocean of Allman Brothers inspiration, or if Soundgarden had been steeped in late 60s Fleetwood Mac". Released August 3, 2010, Perdition Hymns has been called "axe-grinding blooze-rock of the highest order" by the LA Weekly and features the new Night Horse single "Confess to Me", which can be downloaded free.
Progressive hard rock collective Ancestors has been called "a thicker and more modern version of Pink Floyd" and creates mighty, modern music that dovetails innovative arrangement, impressive riff interplay and exciting instrumental passages. The band's latest album Of Sound Mind has been called "a triumphant prog-metal ride" and "a journey through the past into the future." The record showcases Ancestors' ever-evolving musicianship and metrics, which have drawn comparison to Neurosis, Hawkwind, King Crimson and (early) Black Sabbath. Ancestors features Justin Maranga - (Guitar, Vocals), Nick Long (Bass Guitar, Vocals), Brandon Pierce (Drums, Gong), Chico Foley (Electronics, Keys, and Vocals) and J. Christopher Watkins (Organ, Vocals).
In addition to vocalist Sam James Velde, Night Horse features guitarists Justin Maranga and Greg Buensuceso, bassist Nick D'Itri and drummer Jamie Miller.
