Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Reveal Release Date And Album Title

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club return with their sixth studio album, titled Specter At The Feast, set for release March 18th on Abstract Dragon / Vagrant Records. While this album embodies all the band's signature motifs - roaring guitars, atmospheric feedback, pounding left-of-center drumbeats - never before has this group taken such an honest and painstaking approach to their songwriting. While having to overcome personal tragedy, the loss of Michael Been, BRMC retreated to find their voice.

"No one really wanted to find those words or dig in deep. So we were faking it for a while, not really digging that deep," admits bassist Robert Been. "You have to go back again and dig a bit deeper, and it was excruciating." They hearkened back to the early days in their career, their debut self-titled album, their love for making music, then thrust themselves into their creative bubble.

The result is what Rolling Stone has deemed a "superb new album," noting, "it captures the group not only at their fiery best ('Rival,' 'Teenage Disease'), but also at their most emotionally open on the sweet 'Lullaby' and the gorgeous 'Returning.'" The rest of Robert Been and drummer Leah Shapiro's interview with Rolling Stone can be read online. Meanwhile, NPR's Ann Powers crowned the band ones to watch in 2013, and called the album "more direct, more heartfelt and more honestly beautiful."

BRMC returned to the stage late last month and showcased new material from their album to rabid fans in three cities in California. The band was intent on tracing their roots in the chosen cities (San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles) and the three "underplay" shows sold out immediately. "They were a trifecta of rock an roll, delivering a record-perfect rendition of their version of gritty rock and/or roll," wrote OC Weekly. More touring will be announced soon.
