Detroit's Electric Six has announced a string of East Coast Summer shows before the band starts preparing for what will undoubtedly be a very busy Fall. Currently holed up in the studio, these disco-rockers are putting the finishing touches on their sixth full-length album which they have christened "KILL," due out on October 20, 2009 on Metropolis Records.
Riding high on a massive amounts of media praise for its most recent album, "Flashy," Electric Six is excitedly in the final stages of recording with guitarist "The Colonel" a.k.a. Zach Shipps (Ladytron, The Hard Lessons) in the producer's chair once again. "With a name like 'KILL' - all caps - it needs to make a statement," said Shipps about the upcoming album.
Flashy received high marks all around from SPIN ("despite the ironic humor, there's a compassion in the music that's unexpected coming from a band best known for a Taco Bell-referencing novelty hit") to the sadly-missed Blender ("Flashy is the sardonic sextet's fifth album of apocalyptic buffoonery shot through with metal, new wave and disco, all of it hilarious, none of it a joke") to Rolling Stone ("a saxed up, disco-metal epic"). So expectations are high for Electric Six to deliver yet another classic... this time, perhaps without a 'gay bar', a 'dance commander' or a 'nuclear war' involved. But then again, it's Electric Six. Anything is possible! (remember, they did do "Gay Bar Part 2" on Flashy!).
Electric Six is Dick Valentine (vocals), The Colonel (guitar), Johnny Na$hinal (guitar), Smorgasbord (bass), Tait Nucleus? (synths) and Percussion World (drums). Their sixth album, "KILL," will be released on Metropolis Records on October 20, 2009.
