Faceless International is humbled to announce their 2009 service travel opportunities. These trips are open to anyone who is interested in experiencing world-change first hand, specifically in the areas of human trafficking and fair trade. This year, Faceless International will be returning to India and Guatemala, as well as launching new experiences in Ukraine, and domestic trips in Los Angeles and New York.
"We are very excited to have the opportunity to open up trips here in the United States as well as overseas," states Sarah Freeman, Director of Faceless International. "I think sometimes we forget how much need we have here in the US, and we don't realize that trafficking occurs in our own back yard. We hope that these domestic work trips will enable a new group of people who are passionate about working to change their world around them, who might not be able to afford one of our international trips."
Started by Stephen Christian of the band Anberlin; Seth Cain former road manager of Anberlin; and their abolitionist friend Sarah Freeman, Faceless International serves as an educational and experiential organization for artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers and their fans.
Showbread is one of the bands that has had firsthand experienced the work that Faceless performs. As a band, they traveled to Ecuador to work in an orphanage, and Josh Dies, vocalist for the band, has also participated in the group's work in India.
"Faceless is a vehicle that brought me to a deeper understanding of the identifying characteristic of my faith: love," explains Dies. "Similarly, it was through working with Faceless that I learned there are countless methods to translate this love to its most effective form: humble service."
The impact of Faceless International's trips are apparent, not only overseas, but in the lives of the participants when they return home. One young woman has started a Faceless International College team, while another is running a marathon to raise funds to build a school. Three of the girls created the "She Will Dance" fund, which is raising money to pay for an essential surgery needed for a young physically disabled girl. "Bikes Beans and Bands" will be kicking off in June as one of our Guatemala participants is organizing a bike ride from Atlanta to Cornerstone Festival in Illinois to raise funds and awareness for Fair Trade Coffee.
