Girl In A Coma "Say" Yes To Road Trip

Girl In A Coma "Say" Yes To Road TripAll-female trio Girl in a Coma are backing their Blackheart Records release 'Both Before I'm Gone' with a tour that includes Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Tucson, plus a swing through Texas, with two dates in their hometown of San Antonio (see details below). They'll be playing with Social Distortion, The Cliks and The Toadies, good complements for Girl in a Coma's "inspired, body-moving" (BUST Magazine) energy and "dreamy, anthemic hard rock" (Seattle Weekly).

They'll also be taping an episode of the hit TLC show "LA Ink" while they're in LA, during which charismatic singer-guitarist Nina Diaz, 19, who's written darkly about "tattooed lovers" in "Their Cell," will get inked herself.

Nina, older sister Phanie Diaz and Phanie's longtime best friend Jenn Alva formed Girl in a Coma in 2001 and achieved a lifetime dream when they recently toured with Morrissey. Their touring, besides hundreds of their own headlinging shows, has included the Vans Warped Tour and dates with Frank Black and The Pogues.

They've also had their share of media appearances. A documentary about the group on Si TV set them up for a surprise meeting one of their idols, Joan Jett, who was so impressed by their performance that she signed them to her Blackheart Records on the spot. And fashion magazine Nylon used the moody "Their Cell" as the soundtrack for a NylonTV feature on Mary-Kate Olsen.

Girl in a Coma's videos have garnered them considerable attention too. "Clumsy Sky," which draws on the band's shared Latina heritage, has been heavily featured on Telemundo's Mun2 channel and is currently a candidate for a viewers' award. "Road to Home," which stars the inimitable Amanda Lepore, self-described as "the world's #1 transsexual," has been high on LOGO's Click list for months. GIAC's newest video, "Say," offers "slicing guitars" and "pulse-racing beats" (Las Vegas City Life) along with Nina's searing vocals against a frenetic background and scribbled lyrics such as "Gentlemen take off your hats" that are sure to provoke further admiration for the band, whether they're on a stage, a TV or a computer screen near you.
