Gregory and the Hawk, aka songbird Meredith Godreau, have embarked on a brief solo tour this week in support of her most recent album, last fall's acclaimed "Leche." The NY-based musician will kick off the run of shows in Los Angeles supporting Jenny O. and Harper Simon at the Bootleg Theater on February 21 before heading to San Francisco for Noise Pop 2011 where she will share a bill at Cafe du Nord with Film School and Apex Manor. Godreau will then head to Seattle for a gig with a solo Ted Leo at the University of Washington on February 25 before flying home to end the jaunt at Littlefield in Brooklyn on February 26.
Godreau's latest album will be perfectly showcased in the live setting with just her and her guitar and harp as she has shed the dense sonic layers and meticulous production of 2008's Monie and Kitchie in place of a more stripped-back approach. Her breathy, crystalline coo will shine as she delivers her delicate folk-pop. Released in November on FatCat Records, the LP continues to win over critics on both sides of the pond with Q stating: "With a voice somewhere between Leslie Feist and The Go-Gos' Jane Wiedlin, Meredith Godreau would sound fantastic just singing a Domino's menu," while The Onion said: "Singer-songwriter. Bedroom popster. Weirdo folky. Whatever. An album this inventive and enjoyable transcends any of those names."
Godreau spent the last few months of 2010 performing all across Europe supporting label mates Les Shelleys and recently returned from Japan where she supported Mice Parade.
