Currently on a national tour, LA-based guitarist and singer Imaad Wasif has announced his participation in RAISE Hope For Congo, a compilation to help stop the world's worst violence against women & girls as a result of conflict in Democratic Republic of the Congo. The compilation features Wasif's song "Not Immune," and is available for purchase.
All profits raised through this compilation will help fund critical field research and awareness raising efforts that will work to end the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the insatiable worldwide demand for electronic products is fueling violence and the use of rape as a weapon of war.
Enough, a project of the Center for American Progress to end genocide and crimes against humanity, has joined forces with Mercer Street Records to release this special compilation album curated by leading music expert Nic Harcourt (Los Angeles Times, KCRW Radio, A&E Network). The incredible genre-spanning album includes exclusive unreleased tracks from Norah Jones, Mos Def, Damien Rice, Angelique Kidjo, Bat For Lashes, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Amadou & Mariam and more as well as a special reading from Sheryl Crow.
TRACK LISTING:
Performance is the gateway to the ecstatic state, the possession of spirit, inducing visions and experiences in the realm of the unknown. Imaad Wasif channels a raw energy that makes its way from his hands and throat straight into your skull. Raga rock folk psych punk blues-he draws from all of these influences yet he cannot be defined by any single category.
Wasif's appeal is in his dark, brooding voice and hypnotic, eerie, smoldering guitar playing. His music is deceptively simple which makes him one of the most gripping of contemporary performers. Its mythical quality becomes a springboard from which he explores the mysteries of life and the universe on his third album, "The Voidist." Recorded with Two Part Beast, plus guests Dale Crover (Melvins) and Greg Burns (Red Sparowes), "The Voidist" was released by Tee Pee Records in October 2009. Take a listen to a live 2010 recording of Imaad Wasif at the Hobby Shop Studios.
