Last.fm has announced it has experienced triple digit US growth across all key metrics from December '07 to December '08, according to Nielsen Online. Nielsen's December '08 report shows that Last.fm posted significant year-over-year increases in unique visitors (204%), site visits (147%), page views (219%) and total minutes (141%) spent on the site, making it one of the fastest growing sites in the music category.
Martin Stiksel, Last.fm Co-Founder, said, "These results re-affirm that we're one of the fastest-growing online music services in the U.S. Being part of the CBS family has given us a solid foundation from which to build on this success, enabling us to focus on delivering the most engaging and comprehensive music discovery service on the Web, as well as outstanding experiences for clients across advertising, mobile, hardware and online."
Numerous improvements to the site over the past year contributed to the impressive growth, along with new offerings — the most notable being Last.fm's "Free On Demand" service. The service, which launched nearly a year ago, made Last.fm the first online music destination to offer users free, global, on-demand access to the largest free online streaming music service.
Building on the increased traffic and user-engagement, Last.fm kicked off 2009 with a redesigned homepage offering its community greater ease of use and a suite of new advertising placement opportunities to partners. As part of the redesign, Last.fm will continue to offer smart-ad campaign options to brands looking to create innovative campaigns utilizing Last.fm's unique functionality.
