Lionsgate, the leading next generation filmed entertainment studio, has entered into a unique partnership with Wind-up Records, the leading independently owned and operated mid-size label in the US, the two companies announced yesterday, signaling a continued expansion of Lionsgate's music publishing operations.
The deal kicks off with five of Wind-up's principal acts including the recent VH1 "You Oughta Know" artist Thriving Ivory, South African trio Civil Twilight, whose music has been featured on television series "House," "One Tree Hill," "Without a Trace," and "Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles," and emerging rock band Tickle Me Pink, currently touring with Hawthorne Heights. Additionally, Lionsgate will exclusively use music from Wind-up Records for its VH1 reality show "Scream Queens," and prominently features Wind-up acts such as Seether in the upcoming action thriller Punisher: War Zone, premiering December 5th, with the soundtrack dropping on November 26th.
Lionsgate Music President Jay Faires said, "Wind-up is the most influential rock-leaning independent label in America and a natural fit for our next generation consumers. We see this as the first in a series of deals with genre leaders, and we're very excited to be in business with them as our growing film and TV slate calls for more rock music."
Wind-up President Edward Vetri added, "Wind-up is very excited to be in this new strategic relationship with Lionsgate. Wind-up and Lionsgate are like-minded companies that are committed to developing and breaking artists. Lionsgate's belief in Wind-up's A&R and commitment to its artists, and our belief in Lionsgate's ability to use its film and TV properties and its corporate relationships to expose our artists, will ultimately and significantly increase the value of the publishing we hold together. This relationship is a key strategic driver in Wind-up's overall vision of success within our 360 artist structure."
In Wind-up's eleven years, the company has discovered and built the careers of Creed, Evanescence, Seether, Finger Eleven, and 12 Stones, has achieved cumulative sales exceeding 50 million albums and features such upcoming stars as Thriving Ivory, Civil Twilight, Company of Thieves, Endless Hallway, Stars of Track and Field, Tickle Me Pink and others.
