Monterrey Mexico's Nrmal Collective announces its second annual Festival Nrmal on March 12th, 2011, on the grounds of Alianza Francesca de Monterrey in San Pedro Garza Garcia in Nuevo León, just on the outskirts of Monterrey proper. This year the festival will showcase more than 20 national and international independent musical acts on two stages including: Thee Oh Sees (US), Las Robertas (Costa Rica), Chikita Violenta (MX), She's a Tease (MX), Bare Wires (US), Silje Nes (NORWAY), Surf City (New Zealand), Los Amparito (MX) and Bam Bam (MX).
Staying true to the collective's love and support of local Mexican art culture, Festival Nrmal will spotlight the work of young artists with a distinctive vision in today´s art world. Curated by local and international artists such as Rubén Gutiérrez (Monterrey) and Barriobajero (Madrid), the art gallery will house the work of different plastic, urban and multimedia artists from across the globe. New this year is the addition of a design "mercadito" (flea market) organized by Toc Toc collective.
As the city of Monterrey has seen a growth in drug-related violence over the past year, the frequency of cultural events has greatly diminished. Festival Nrmal's organizers believe that its young audience deserves an opportunity to enjoy live music in a positive environment. Holding the festival in one of the city's safest neighborhoods, the organizers hope to create a space of cultural expression and experimentation, where young crowds in search of new artistic proposals will have access to the exciting work of emerging bands and artists.
