Placebo Announce Single Release

Placebo have announced the release of their brand new single, “For What It’s Worth” on May 5, 2009, via iTunes. This will be the first single from their upcoming album "Battle For The Sun," (to be released June 9th on Vagrant). The single was added out of the box at KROQ in Los Angeles, 91X in San Diego and WEQX in Albany, and officially goes for adds May 19th. The video of “For What It’s Worth” has already been viewed over 450,000 times since its premiere last Tuesday on MySpace.

Also beginning May 5th, fans can pre-order Battle For The Sun exclusively through iTunes for $9.99. Fans will instantly receive a free digital copy of “For What It’s Worth” and will receive two bonus tracks when the album is released on June 9th. The bonus tracks include the b-side, “In A Funk” along with a cover of Nik Kershaw’s “Wouldn’t It Be Good” (which is only available through the pre-order).

Recorded over three months by producer Dave Bottrill in Toronto (chosen by the band largely because of his work with Tool) and mixed in London by My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails supremo Alan Moulder, Placebo’s sixth album is heralded as marking a whole new era for the band who have sold ten million albums worldwide.

The band will be showcasing their new material on three sold-out UK warm up dates in advance of various headline summer festival appearances from the end of May.

Placebo is: Brian Molko – guitar/vocals, Stefan Olsdal – bass, and Steve Forrest – drums.
