Following the announcement made earlier this month that Canada's Hey Rosetta! have been short listed for the 2009 Polaris Prize, past nominees include Metric, Broken Social Scene & K'Naan), the band have announced upcoming US shows in New York City and Boston. After playing a packed house at Arlene's Grocery in NYC's Lower East Side during CMJ 2008, the Newfoundland Canada-based band is headed back south of the border to play for their ever-growing US fanbase with shows in New York City at Mercury Lounge on July 27th and at Boston's The Middle East on July 28th. These shows round out Hey Rosetta's Canadian extensive summer festival run that includes notable plays at Toronto's Harbourfront Festival, the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Montreal's Osheaga Festival.
The amassment of nominations and prizes Hey Rosetta! has received (including two Canadian Music Week Indie Awards, Best Album at the XM Verge Music Awards, three East Coast Music Awards and three Music NL awards) has been steadily building since the release of their sophomore album, Into Your Lungs (Sonic Records). Making the prestigious Polaris short-list of nominees is a milestone that most bands dream of but few ever achieve. Fellow 2009 nominees include K'Naan, Metric and Malajube.
