September 8th will see the release of Sondre Lerche's new album "Heartbeat Radio," his debut for Rounder Records and the start of an ambitious new chapter for the widely praised singer. The twelve-track collection of expansive, orchestral pop will be Lerche's first release since 2007's soundtrack for "Dan in Real Life," his best-selling album to date.
"Heartbeat Radio" was produced by Lerche with Kato Ådland and recorded in Lerche's hometown of Bergen, Norway, and his newly adopted home of Brooklyn, NY. The album was mixed by Joe Chicarelli (White Stripes, My Morning Jacket, The Shins) and features string and horn arrangements by Sean O'Hagan (High Llamas). In addition to using his longtime backing band, The Faces Down, the visionary and masterful songwriter has also brought together a large group of new musicians and contributors for "Heartbeat Radio," building upon his keen knack for full-bodied pop sonics recalling Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys, Prefab Sprout, XTC and even Brazilian legend, Milton Nascimento.
Though only 26, Lerche is already a musical veteran who released his first album at the age 19 and has toured with Elvis Costello and Beth Orton. The Los Angeles Times named Lerche "one of the most talented names in contemporary pop," and Rolling Stone has called him the "thinking person's pop-star." Lerche has explored numerous musical styles throughout his career including his 2006 jazz-influenced "Duper Sessions," which reached #5 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz charts. In 2007, Lerche was commissioned by director Peter Hedges to compose music for "Dan in Real Life," becoming the exclusive songwriter and musical voice of the film.
Sondre Lerche will tour the US extensively in September and Europe in October. Specific dates will be announced soon.
