Toronto's The Order Of Good Cheer released their debut double EP, "Tanto Manta ~ Manta Tanto" digitally earlier this week via Arts&Crafts Distribution. The Order of Good Cheer (L'Ordre de Bon Temps) in its historical legend was a smashing peelers club in the 1600s. Samuel de Champlian organized a club for men to help endure the rough Canadian winters where they could indulge in a monthly orgy of food, drink, and the touch of french strippers. In 2009, Francesco Guidoccio, David Tysowski, Chris Greenough and Kyle Wilson created the music collective, The Order Of Good Cheer, to celebrate the essence and spirit of the original club through music. In early 2010, The Cheer recorded their debut double EP "Tanto Manta ~ Manta Tanto" with Toronto hot-shot guitarist and producer Steve Krecklo (Cuff The Duke). The Cheer enlisted their friends and trusted associate Cheer members for guest album appearances. Everyone from Liam O'Neil (The Stills), Lindy Vopnford (Major Maker), Todor Kobakov (Emily Haines), Thom Darcy (Small Sins) and the enigmactic Craig "The Doctor" Brown all had their chance to be a part of history.
Prior to completing recording, early mixes of the track "Be My Cub" found fans and music placements in the filmmakers' Malcolm Ingram (Small Town Gay Bar) and Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Zack & Miri Make a Porno) forthcoming documentary film, Bear Nation and the filmmakers' accompanying hit podcast "Smodcast." The track serves as a theme song to documentary that includes interviews with music legend Bob Mould, filmmaker/bear idol Kevin Smith and actor Tracey Morgan (30 Rock, SNL). The documentary is slated for an October 2010 airing on MTV Logo (USA) with a DVD release to follow. Check out the movie trailer.
This big city, rock country record was quickly picking up steam from the bands' humble beginnings in Toronto's Kensington Market to their more recent sold-out efforts with The Arkells and Hollerado at the Horseshoe Tavern.
To celebrate the digital release of "Tanto Manta ~ Manta Tanto" this June, The Order Of Good Cheer have been hosting the "Spring Fever Revue" residency concert series at The Piston (937 Bloor St. W) in Toronto with very special guests Hollerado, Still Life Still, Dan Griffin of Arkells and Bad Yoga (Neil Quin & Mike O'Brien of Zeus, William Delray and Jay McCarol of the Golden Dogs). To compliment The Order Of Good Cheer's insatiable appetite for BBQ, the band personally smoked over 100 pounds of pulled pork to be served to fans of the residency as well including a meat draw ticket with cover charge to win five pounds of Gooch's world famous smoked pulled pork during their set.
The Order invites all to participate in the glorious and sensual journey in the contribution to the world of Rock and Roll. The band is known for their lush, multi-layered, rock-country with psychedelic arrangements, spacey lyrics and bizarre song titles. They are also acclaimed for their live shows which sometimes feature costumes, dancing girls, video projections, large amounts of food and drink, and frontman Francesco Guidoccio's larger than life, bigger then Jesus meets Elvis persona.
