The Submarines Announce Co-Headline Tour With The Morning Benders

As one excitingly hectic year comes to an end for The Submarines, another begins. The duo will kick off 2009 with a co-headline tour alongside The Morning Benders. The 23-city trek begins on January 31 in Costa Mesa, CA and ends on March 1 in San Diego, CA, with the two bands trading off closing duties each night.

The Submarines released their sophomore full-length album Honeysuckle Weeks earlier this year to critical acclaim. Paste Magazine stated, "John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard jam a wealth of sonic textures-all designed with stunning clarity and obvious focus-into the album's 10 songs," and Metro NY called it "the soundtrack of the summer." They received praise and were featured in publications like ReadyMade, Filter, VenusZine, Magnet, Performing Songwriter and Time Out NY, and landed on the cover of LA Weekly.

Over the last six months, songs from the album have appeared in major TV shows like Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, Privileged and the music-infused film Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (where they also landed on the soundtrack). Currently, the track "You, Me and the Bourgeoisie" is being used in the re-vamped iPhone 3G commercial, with album art, artist name and lyrics used to demonstrate the "Shazam" music application on the phone. This new use has caused a huge spike in digital track and album sales for the band, leading to their debut two weeks ago on the Billboard Alternative Chart and Heatseekers Chart. The album continues to rise this week, sitting at #19 on the Alternative Chart and #62 on the Heatseekers Chart.

Additionally, the duo has been featured on iTunes numerous times, from the "Hot Indie Rock" list to the "Rising Stars of Alt Rock" list; they have also had homepage features on YouTube, AOL, Yahoo,, and USA Today's Pop Candy, and performed on shows like Fuel TV's "The Daily Habit," TV Guide's mVids and ABC News Now.

The couple spent the summer and fall on the road, both on their own headline tour and as support for such artists as Aimee Mann and The Brazilian Girls. They'll continue the pattern through the winter as they share the spotlight with The Morning Benders, who released their debut full-length album Talking Through Tin Cans earlier this year and toured the US over the summer as main support for the Kooks. The San Francisco based indie-pop quartet has received a ton of critical praise from places like Filter, Stereogum, LA Times Buzz Bands,, Metromix, SF Weekly, RCRD LBL and more.

On December 5, The Submarines will play their last show of the year in their hometown of Los Angeles at The Echoplex.
