The Twilight Singers have announced their US tour in support of their upcoming new album "Dynamite Steps." The 23-city tour will launch in Oxford, Mississippi on May 4th and conclude in New Orleans, LA on June 3rd. Tickets for all shows will go on sale this week. Special guests Margot and the Nuclear So and So's will open all shows on the US run. The band is currently recording their fourth album and will be taking a break to join The Twilight Singers on tour.
"We're excited to get back out and see the USA with such an influential songwriter as Greg Dulli," commented lead singer Richard Edwards. "Babies will be born because of these shows. Furthermore, we hope The Twilight Singers play 'I'm Ready' at least a few of the shows."
Tuesday February 15th, Sub Pop Records will release "Dynamite Steps," The Twilight Singers' fifth album. The band will celebrate the launch of the record by performing two special shows at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles (February 15th) and the San Francisco Amoeba Music store (February 17th). These will be the first ever in store performances for the group. The band will also be performing their first single "On The Corner" on Jimmy Kimmel Live on February 23rd.
Clearly the next chapter in an already long and stellar career for Greg Dulli, "Dynamite Steps" reaches a whole new level of catharsis and progression, evocatively cramming all the highs and lows of the maverick singer-songwriter's past half-decade into unexpected sonic trapdoors. Various guests make contributions to the album including: Ani DiFranco, Joseph Arthur, Petra Haden, Nick McCabe (The Verve), and Mark Lanegan.
Rising to fame as the magnetic leader of the Afghan Whigs during the '80s and '90s; Greg Dulli followed his muse and began to innovatively fuse indie, soul and electronic sounds in his post-Whigs collective The Twilight Singers, who released their first album, "Twilight As Played By The Twilight Singers," in 2000. Their beloved second album "Blackberry Belle" followed in 2003, followed by a covers album "She Loves You" in 2004. 2006's "Powder Burns" made many critics "Best Of" year end lists. In 2008 he teamed up with long time friend Mark Lanegan to form The Gutter Twins who released the critically acclaimed album "Saturnalia" the same year.
