White Hinterland Release "Eidolon" Digital EP, Tour With S. Carey

Eidolon is an Ancient Greek term that means "human shadow," or spiritual double, of a living being. Fitting, then, that White Hinterland's Eidolon EP serve as a companion piece to Kairos, the stunning full-length released in March from this Portland group.

Collected and curated over the course of 2010, the songs found on Eidolon reflect the very spirit of White Hinterland in that there is never a single definitive version of a song. They are written to be flexible and stretch in all directions. There is no "correct" way to play or listen to a White Hinterland song. The two remixes of Kairos standout "Icarus" found on Eidolon are a fine example. Ghost Waves re-imagines the song as a club banger, and the band's own remix of "Icarus" - made for Project Runway champion Gretchen Jones' finale showcase -emphasizes the song's ethereality. A cover of Monica's contempo R&B classic "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)" and a total reworking of Kairos closer "Magnolias" - both recorded this fall at the band's home studio - offer a glimpse of the band's direction and reflect the live incarnation of White Hinterland.
