Bring Me The Horizon Unleash "Suicide Season"
Bring Me The Horizon Unleash

British metalcore outfit Bring Me the Horizon released their sophomore album, Suicide Season, on November 18th via Epitaph Records. It's not often scene kids, screamo fans and metal-heads can agree on a band, but after BMTH's explosive rise in popularity, culminating in their breakout performances at Vans Warped Tour this summer, fans of all three genres have found their new favorite band. With a wildly-anticipated new album and a full US tour on the way, Britain's hottest up-and-comers are on track to conquer the country this fall.

Hailing from Sheffield, England, Oliver Sykes (vocals), Matt Nicholls (drums), Curtis Ward (guitar), Matt Kean (bass) and Lee Malia (guitar) formed BMTH in 2004 and began setting the UK ablaze with blistering performances across the country. By 2006 the band had already won Kerrang!'s "Best British Newcomers" award and toured with groups like Killswitch Engage, Aiden and Bleeding Through. Later that fall the group unleashed their debut album, Count Your Blessings, which further cemented their place among the metalcore elite.

In April 2008 the group entered the studio with legendary producer Fredrik Norstrom (Arch Enemy, In Flames, At the Gates) in an isolated area of Sweden, where they recorded their sophomore album, Suicide Season.

BMTH's experiences over the past few years, for better or worse, have shaped them into more passionate musicians, no longer content with ten tracks of straight up chugging and screaming (although ferociously heavy tracks such as "Sleep with One Eye Open" and "No Need For Introductions..." remain). Instead, the vocals are more varied, guitars more atmospheric and the drums are a pure driving force. BMTH have opted to explore the limits of their sound and abilities, resulting in tracks that will make you think as much as bang your head.

Suicide Season's opening track, "The Comedown," foreshadows the album's brutal intentions with sharp chainsaw riffs, pistol-whipping beats and snarling vocals that will send fans into a windmilling frenzy. The album's immediacy continues with songs like the moody hardcore meltdown "Chelsea Smile" and the prog-screamo sing along "The Sadness Will Never End," and doesn't let up until the last notes of the album-ending title track. Suicide Season is the perfect soundtrack to a life spent on the edge, where the rules don't apply and darkness rules. November is Suicide Season.

Suicide Season Tracklisting:

  1. The Comedown
  2. Chelsea Smile
  3. It Was Written In Blood
  4. Death Breathe
  5. Football Season Is Over
  6. Sleep With One Eye Open
  7. Diamonds Aren't Forever
  8. The Sadness Will Never End
  9. No Need For Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You

Musicians Bringing Musicians Home IV Benefit Announced
Musicians Bringing Musicians Home IV Benefit Announced

Will Oldham (Bonnie “Prince” Billy), Nicole Atkins, Hank Shocklee (Bomb Squad, Future Frequency), Alec Ounsworth (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), Jonny 5 and Brer Rabbit (Flobots) and Waterflow (of Senegalese hip-hop band Wageble) join together for “Musicians Bringing Musicians Home IV” – a special evening of music at Tipitina’s Uptown (501 Napoleon Ave.) on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 9pm. This show is a benefit for Sweet Home New Orleans, a coalition of non-profit organizations that helps find affordable housing and provides rental assistance for Katrina displaced musicians, Mardi Gras performers and other traditional New Orleans artists.

Tickets for the concert are onsale now at www.tipitinas.com and in person at the Tipitina’s box office. Admission is $12 with all proceeds going to benefit the work of Sweet Home New Orleans.

“This year’s retreat and benefit concert look to be amazing,” says previous “Musicians Bringing Musicians Home” participant Jim James of My Morning Jacket. “Will Oldham is a Kentucky legend and one of the most inspired artists performing today. Hank Shocklee has produced some of the greatest music ever recorded and Nicole Atkins is one of the strongest new voices to arrive in quite some time. I’m sure it will be an evening of sheer delight and emotion as these artists and others from the NOLA music community and beyond will share the stage and bring the love.”

The “Musicians Bringing Musicians Home IV” concert is the celebratory and fundraising finale of the fourth three-day activist retreat hosted by Air Traffic Control and the Future of Music Coalition since the Gulf Coast storms of 2005. This retreat brings established and emerging artists from around the country to New Orleans to tour affected neighborhoods, visit with some of the city’s notable musicians and community leaders and participate in strategy sessions about how to integrate activism and philanthropy into their work as musicians. Through these activities, musicians share their experiences, learn how to “plug-in” to activist circles, and discuss how to best address needs in their hometowns and in the communities through which they tour.

Past retreat participants have included Steve Earle, Tom Morello, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Boots Riley (the Coup) Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney), Damian Kulash (OK Go), Nick Harmer (Death Cab for Cutie), the Indigo Girls, Matt Nathanson, Jim James and Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), Jon Langford (the Mekons) and others.

Jim James of My Morning Jacket, who participated in last year’s retreat and benefit show, describes his feelings on the experience: "I feel so fortunate to be able to have come to New Orleans to learn and celebrate with fellow friends, artists and musicians from NOLA and around the country. It is so important for us to keep New Orleans and its rich musical heritage alive and on people's minds alongside the many other issues the world is dealing with right now. It’s hard to believe there are still countless unresolved situations from the damage and mismanagement of Katrina and other Gulf Coast storms. The good people of New Orleans deserve their due, as there are still so many wrongs to be righted and unfinished situations that need to be dealt with fairly.”

No two “Musicians Bringing Musicians Home” benefit concerts are the same. Past events have proven to be a special night of collaboration among artists with many performing together for the first time and others sitting in on each other’s sets. These unique partnerships arise out of the camaraderie established during the retreat and, in some cases, continue long after participants have left New Orleans.

Airborne Toxic Event Add US Dates
Airborne Toxic Event Add US Dates

Los Angeles' Airborne Toxic Event added 6 US radio dates to its busy schedule following a grueling 30 straight shows in 30 days tour in the UK. The US shows begin December 6 a mere week after completing the UK run with a show at Boston's Orpheum Theater.

While the band has wowed the UK press with the endurance it has taken to do the tour, ultimately it's the music that has won them over, with the NME writing, "Firmly on the right side of dramatic, their engaging stage presence and mawkish violin justifies the Arcade Fire comparisons. There's a beautiful yet deftly macabre spine to their songs, and "Sometime Around Midnight" is a stirring demonstration of their power. ...if you haven't seen TATE, you should."

Speaking of endurance, the first single off the band's eponymous debut album, "Sometime Around Midnight" has now spent 15 weeks on the Alternative Chart, and continues to rise moving up another 4 places on the chart from 35 to 31. It's a very rare occurrence for a song. The song's continued strength was borne out in some radio station research which the song to be #1 among males 24-30 at the Alternative format.

On top of the great radio play and press reaction the band is currently one of 8 bands in Heavy Rotation at MTV2 for "Sometime Around Midnight." As with radio the endurance and slow burn of the song is why it is in the top rotation, more than three months after the video had been added to the playlists of MTV2, VH-1 and MTVU. Also in the television media The Airborne Toxic Event are part of a 10 second NBC Promo which will start over Thanksgiving weekend and is expected to be seen by over 50 million viewers.

Below are the US dates with more to follow in the upcoming weeks:

  • December 6 Boston WFNX Orpheum Theater
  • December 8 New York WRXP Blender Gramercy Theatre
  • December 10 Kansas City, MO KRBZ The Midland
  • December 11 Austin, TX KROX Emos
  • December 13 Tuscon, AZ KFMA TCC Exhibition Hall
  • December 18 Portland, OR KNRK Crystal Ballroom

Boss Hog Returning After 8 Years
Boss Hog Returning After 8 Years

Legendary New York band Boss Hog will be returning to the New York stage on Wednesday, December 17, headlining an incendiary evening of outrageously perverse rock’n’roll, degenerate burlesque, and chasm-like grooves.

Led by the wildly sexy and completely unpredictable punk chanteuse Cristina Martinez and her blues-exploding husband Jon Spencer, this will mark Boss Hog’s first hometown show since 2000.

Boss Hog’s 1989 debut as a last-minute fill in at CBGBs saw the beginning of a rotating line-up featuring members of New York’s noisiest gentry, Pussy Galore, the Honeymoon Killers, and the Unsane, before finally evolving into the classic team of Cristina Martinez, Jon Spencer, Hollis Queens, Jens Jurgensen, and Mark Boyce for the decidedly slinkier Boss Hog. The entire entourage will be on hand for this powerhouse return.

Over the years they have shocked and amazed with their sui generis cocktail of sugar-coated hooks and poisonous riffs, deliriously seductive stage show, and subversive, sweaty rhythms. For their newest salvo they will be drawing on their entire legacy.

Explaining their eight-year hiatus, Martinez says, “It’s been two torturous terms of Republican disease and culture death. Now that we're free, it's the perfect time for us to bring back our own brand of sick in celebration.”

Adds her live-in guitarist, Jon Spencer, “This whole ‘change’ thing isn’t new… Boss Hog represented change with every album we made!”

Joining Boss Hog at the Bowery Ballroom is a full compliment of rhythm and grind, featuring the country punk moxie of Tennessee's Those Darlins, the titillating parade of burlesque goddesses Harvest Moon and Dirty Martini, and special guest DJ Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Sponsored by the fabulous BUST magazine.

Combichrist Set To Release New Album In January
Combichrist Set To Release New Album In January

Metropolis recording artists Combichrist are gearing up for the release of Today We Are All Demons on January 20, 2009. Recorded in Totprod Studios in Atlanta, GA and produced by Andy LePlegua (also the mastermind behind the band), their fourth studio album welds fearsome industrial techno with modern electro rhythms and textures. "It's by far my most personal album to date," explains LePlegua. "I finally feel I have captured the spirit of Combichrist."

Immersed not only in the trademark fire and burn of Combichrist of yore but adding a new found sense of urgency and dynamics, Today We Are All Demons sees the band meshing old sounds with new, creating a whole new direction for the band. From the propulsive and expansive “All Pain Is Gone” to the sultry aggro stomp of “Can’t Change the Beat” to the dancefloor pummel of Kickstart the Fight" (featuring the guest vocals of Gen of Genitorturers), to the jackhammer-pound of “Get Out of My Head,” the album rips through beats, bass and rhythm, creating a hybrid genre that crisscrosses rock, metal, industrial, and underground dance. "Sent to Destroy," the first single and video from the album, originally made its appearance on the Frost EP that was released in July 2008. No strangers to Billboard's charts, the EP debuted on the Top Singles Chart at #8 and the Dance Chart at #5 and remains on both charts today. The previous EP Get Your Body Beat entered the Dance Chart at #5 and Top Singles Chart at #30. In LePlegua's native Europe, their EP Sex, Drogen Und Industrial topped the German Alternative Charts at Number One for seven weeks straight. Their previous releases had similar outstanding charting stories as well.

Today We Are All Demons Track Listing:

  1. No Afterparty
  2. All Pain Is Gone
  3. Kickstart the Fight
  4. I Want Your Blood
  5. Can't Change the Beat
  6. Sent to Destroy
  7. Spit (Happy Pig Whore)
  8. A New Form of Silence
  9. Scarred
  10. The Kill V2
  11. Get Out Of My Head
  12. Today We Are All Demons
  13. At The End Of It All

Starting off in the dark metal and hardcore soul of Norway, Andy LePlegua led a few seminal bands in the Norwegian underground (including the influential Icon of Coil) before fusing electronics and dance beats and forming Combichrist in 2003 and releasing their incredibly well-respected EBM/Industrial debut The Joy of Gunz (2003). The two following albums - Everybody Hates You and What The F*&$ Is Wrong With You People? - witnessed the band's evolution of their self-described "techno body music", which was described as "a journey through hell and high water, through the eyes of a serial killer, sex, violence and plenty of Jack Daniels on ice."

"I wanted more of everything, and everything seemed to just fall into place without making any compromises," explains LePlegua about the new album. Today We Are All Demons hits stores on January 20, 2009 via Metropolis Records. A national tour in early 2009 will be announced shortly.
