MVD Entertainment Group has announced a new concept for music packaging... They are combining picturedisc LPs with DVD documentaries. The first few releases are from Ike & Tina, Iggy & The Stooges, and GG Allin, and will be streeting on October 1st.
MVD COO Ed Seaman explains: "Shelf space at all retail is such a challenge nowadays, at major chains and indie retail alike, especially for music documentaries on DVD. Vinyl is a growth area in the industry, and picturedisc vinyl is highly collectible. By packaging these great music documentaries with picturedisc vinyl, we get new placement at retail and enlighten a whole new generation of fans."

Infamous New York City street punks The Casualties have announced new details about their forthcoming North American co-headlining tour with Negative Approach. The extended "Destruction Campaign Tour," which will now begin on October 17th in Virginia Beach, VA now includes several new tour dates before ending in Brooklyn, NY on December 2nd.
Chicago trio Russian Circles have premiered the title track from their forthcoming fifth album, Memorial via Rolling Stone. The song features guest vocals by label (and tour) mate Chelsea Wolfe. Russian Circles previously debuted the first track from the album via Pitchfork. Russian Circles hit the road in the EU and UK with Chelsea Wolfe in October. Both bands will play full headlining sets. Russian Circles will tour the US in early 2014.
With the days counting down till the October 9th kickoff in NYC, CBGB Music & Film Festival has announced that renowned industry ground-breaker Seymour Stein will be bestowed with the inaugural CBGB Icon Award, honoring those industry trailblazers for supporting artists and music in meaningful ways.
Co-founder and chairman of Sire Records, one of the music industry’s most influential record labels and home to some of the most iconic names in modern music, Stein also serves as Senior Label A&R Executive - Independent Music, Warner Music Group.
Japan’s legendary psych collective are back again in the form of Acid Mothers Temple & Space Paranoid armed with a new album of droning Sabbath-inspired crunch, Black Magic Satori. Led by renowned guitarist Kawabata Makoto, the quartet tackles extreme stoner metal in a way that only they could. The album’s three songs clock in at a running time of over 32 minutes, so expect drones and jams aplenty. The album includes their take on the classic Black Sabbath song, “Paranoid” entitled “Space Paranoid” which is premiering at Revolver Magazine.
In October, Red Hare will join Louisville, Kentucky trio Coliseum for a week's worth of west coast dates, including stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Portland. The band's debut record, Nites of Midnite, was released in May via Dischord/Hellfire and the LP version quickly sold out. It is currently being repressed with updated cover art and blue-colored vinyl.
Modern garage rock trio The Lift Up have recently released their debut album, Without Dreams, We Are Only Sleeping digitally worldwide via MondoTunes. The record was co-produced by the band and Grammy-nominated producer, Jim Salamone at Cambridge Sound Studios in Newtown, PA. The nine songs on Without Dreams… alternate between aggressive, modern rock garage stompers and quiet moments of equally intense sonic reflection, all the while remaining short and to the point. Lyrically, the songs deal with the pressures of modern life, of trying to survive under the constant weight of one’s past. The Lift Up consists of bassist Larry Zappaterrini, drummer John Paul Travis and singer/songwriter/guitarist Joe Castro. All three members played together previously in The Situation (Elephant Stone Records).
Japan's speediest purveyors of experimental but melodic grindcore Melt-Banana are celebrating the release their 10th album, fetch with the extensive "2 do what 2 fetch" North American tour that starts October 16 in Vancouver and ends November 16 in Oakland. All songs on the new album were composed by Melt-Banana and primarily recorded and mixed at Studio Ghost, Tokyo, Japan (supplemented with field recordings. fetch is being released by A-Zap Records, distributed by Revolver USA October 1.
Vancouver's Anciients will join Sepultura on their U.S. tour in November. Anciients will join the Sepultura tour on November 8th, and continue through the remainder of dates. The tour will also see Anciients play alongside Unearth and Kataklysm.
Anciients are the featured artist in the latest installment of "Converse x Decibel." A mini-documentary about how the vast woodlands and epic mountain ranges of British Columbia influence the band's elaborate and progressive songs is streaming.
