Midnight Movies
"Patient Eye/Golden Hair"

(New Line Records 2006)Midnight Movies - Patient Eye/Golden Hair

With only one full-length release, a self-titled album which was put out in 2004, under their belt chances are that you may not be all that familiar with Los Angeles' Midnight Movies. But the band's single for "Patient Eye" is about to change all that. Produced by the legendary Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Soundgarden), Midnight Movies' "Patient Eye/Golden Hair" is a psychedelic and laid back musical trip that is easy on the ears.

Included on the single are both the edited and LP versions of "Patient Eye," a mesmerizing tune on which Midnight Movies' vocalist Gena Olivier's smooth and melodic voice floats with just a hint of heaviness over the buzzing and thumping instrumentation. The single's b-side, "Golden Hair" is a cover of Syd Barrett's song which uses lyrics written by Irish writer James Joyce. Enveloped in swirling instrumentation, "Golden Hair" is quiet, building slowly and with a definite feeling of anticipation.

Midnight Movies' "Patient Eye/Golden Hair" flies so effortlessly by that you could easily find yourself sticking your stereo on a loop and letting the lush sounds of the two songs fill the room for hours. With a follow-up to the band's self-titled debut already in the works, "Patient Eye" sets the mood perfectly as to what fans will want to hear and what this band is capable of.
